I did today's work right before bed, and capped it at 20 minutes. It was kind of rushed, and I didn't get too far, but it was something. And something is good enough.
In my story, I imagined the main character living in an apartment complex. This gives her easy access to other potential neighborhood kids and also a contained space to move around in for the first part of the story. I played briefly with the idea of a townhouse or a single family home in a neighborhood, but it didn't feel right. I think she needs to be smack in the middle of a small city for some of the later gags to work, and an apartment just fits that better.
Onward!
